THE CENTER OF SENSORY INTEGRATION EXCELLENCE PRESENTS

Understanding Self Regulation:
A Sensory Approach to Behavioral and Emotional Regulation

Wednesday, May 27th, 6:30-7:30 PM

With Dr. Erna Imperatore Blanche, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA

Why do some children have big emotional reactions, struggle to stay calm and focused, or seem unable to “just regulate”? Self-regulation is deeply rooted in how the nervous system processes sensory information. When sensory systems are not working together effectively, it can impact a child’s emotional responses, behavior, attention, and overall ability to engage in daily life.

This informative and engaging session will explore self-regulation through a sensory lens. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how sensory processing influences emotional and behavioral regulation across home, school, and community settings. We will examine the connection between the body and behavior, identify common signs of dysregulation, and discuss practical, sensory-based strategies to support children in becoming more regulated, engaged, and successful in their everyday experiences.

This presentation is designed for parents, teachers, and professionals who want to better understand children’s sensory needs and learn practical ways to support their development and participation.
